What is Dungeon Settlers?

Dungeon Settlers is a colony sim dungeon crawler by CanOpener, available on PC and Mac (Steam). It entered Steam Early Access on 4 September 2026 after passing 300,000 wishlists. You lead a Guild expedition that settles on corrupted land, builds rooms, farms and workshops, and sends a party of up to four settlers into randomised dungeon floors. Combat is real time with pause, and a settler who dies stays dead.

Early Access has two regions (the Veil of Silence and the Festering Burrow), the 20-floor Abyss, four races and a level cap of 5. This wiki covers the races, backgrounds and traits, skill trees, inscriptions, equipment, the bestiary, regions and where to find every resource, starting with the one everyone runs short of: clay.

Your first days

Surviving the First Week in 5 Steps

  1. Pick your difficulty. Combat and management difficulty are set separately; Normal is the default since patch v0.4.19. See difficulty.
  2. Harvest the wagon and research. The starting wagon holds the cogwheel for your research table, and Basic Wood Processing unlocks the Goddess Statue. See research.
  3. Recruit a fourth settler. Check background, talents and diet before you pay. See races and backgrounds.
  4. Sleep, then dive. Enter the dungeon rested and fed, and pause the moment a fight turns. The Red Monster Rat waits on Floor 2.
  5. Fix clay and mood early. Farm Acid Slogels for clay and build private rooms before your settlers reach level 4. See mood and stress.
